This program will equip you with both general skills and knowledge that are transferrable across the health and wellbeing sectors, and job-specific skills and knowledge to perform specific health and support roles within the wider health and care sectors.

Overview

Over 40 weeks, you will receive professional training from experienced tutors (who have worked in the industry themselves) to be able to enter the health and wellbeing sector, and to confidently provide care for the community’s elderly citizens, and their family. This sector of the economy needs skilled people with big hearts! You’ll also receive a wage increase that is linked to the qualification (as part of the Care and Support Workers Pay Equity Settlement).

On successfully completing this programme, graduates will be able to:

  • Work collaboratively with members of a multidisciplinary team and the and/or family of a person with complex needs to support health and wellbeing (10C)
  • Support registered health professionals by carrying out delegated clinical tasks in a health and wellbeing setting
  • Apply knowledge of health and wellbeing conditions and organisational processes to implement culturally appropriate person-centred/ relationship-centred approaches to care for and support a person with complex needs in a health and wellbeing setting
  • Communicate effectively in a culturally appropriate manner, including preparing for and delivering reports and information as required by the organisation, and engaging in challenging conversations in a health and wellbeing setting
  • Apply leadership skills in a health or wellbeing setting by formal or informal mentoring and/or coaching of colleagues

Applicants must have:

  • Attained the age of 20 years
    and
  • Completed all requirements of the New Zealand Certificate of Health & Wellbeing (Level 3)
    or
  • An equivalent qualification in Health Assistance/Support work
    or
  • Completed a minimum of two years appropriate work or professional experience in a
    Health and Wellbeing role including but not limited to: care giver, health assistant, or nurse.

English language requirement

  • IELTS
    provide evidence of an IELTS overall band score of at least 5.5 (Academic), with no individual band less than 5.0
  • Pearson Academic Test
    have a Pearson Academic Test score of 42 and above with no individual band score less than 36
  • LanguageCert
    have a B2 Communicator Test HIGH PASS and above with no less than a pass in each skill
