Overview

This qualification equips you with the capabilities to integrate into New Zealand businesses and contribute confidently to their success. Explore issues facing SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises), non-for-profit, commercial and global organisations, and deepen your existing knowledge in business communication, organisational change, marketing management, accounting, finance and strategic management. Manage and complete a business project and graduate with real world relevance that will give you a leading edge.

In this year-long course, you will gain an in-depth understanding of concepts underpinning a range of business functions both within established organisations and in start-up situations. The programme enables graduates to enrich their business skills or pursue higher studies and professional development opportunities.

Compulsory and elective components in this programme cover a broad range of management and business disciplines including aspects of strategic planning, accounting, finance, communication, marketing, management and interpersonal cooperative skills.

You will undertake a business project, which gives you the opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills, gain hands-on experience and develop your business skills.

You must study all of the core papers and choose to study three papers from your elective strand

Core learning will be delivered using a blended (face to face) learning approach and you will be encouraged to engage with your fellow students and tutors in class and via your online learning portal. You will be supported throughout the process by our great facilitators who are professionally qualified and have industry and academic experience to share with you.

Graduates will be able to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of concepts underpinning management, 

accounting and finance, business communication, marketing, organisational change and project management both within established organisations and in start-up situations. 

The programme enables graduates to enrich their business skills or pursue higher studies and professional development opportunities. 

Specifically, graduates will be able to: 

  1. Demonstrate a sound understanding of relevant academic theories and models in all components.
  2. Be aware of how technology impacts on industry and organisational issues vary across sectors: not-forprofit, ICT, commercial, global, SME etc.
  3. Understand the role of technology management in the development and operation of markets for resources, goods and services, customer expectations, service and orientation. 
  4. Demonstrate a sound understanding of finance and financial control in relation to technology management. 
  5. Develop appropriate technology policies and strategies within a changing context to meet stakeholder interests. 
  6. Think critically and systematically about business problems and issues and propose solutions.
  7. Manage and complete a business project reportutilisingconcepts covered within the programme. 
  8. Analyse and make recommendations in respect of business problems through the submission of that business project report. 

The qualification can lead to further academic/tertiary study in this area or direct employment into the workforce. 

There are two entry criteria options for the Diploma in Technology Management

Entry criteria option 1:
Students must hold at minimum a Level 6 Diploma in the following study areas:
technology and/or technology-related and/or management and/or management-related from a recognised institution.

or

Entry criteria option 2:
Two years of relevant work experience in technology and/or technology-related and/or management and/or management-related fields

International students

If you are coming from overseas, to be eligible for this course you must be 18 years of age or older

English language requirement

  • IELTS
    provide evidence of an IELTS overall band score of at least 6.0 (Academic), with no individual band less than 5.5
  • Pearson Academic Test
    have a Pearson Academic Test score of 50 or above
  • LanguageCert
    have a C1 Expert Test PASS and above with no less than a pass in each skill
  • Equivalent English certification
    An equivalent English certification as specified in Rule 18 of the NZQF Programme Approval and Accreditation Rules.
