This certificate equips students with the fundamental cooking skills and knowledge necessary to start a career in careers to do with food preparation. Once completed students are ready and eligible to work in all areas of food preparation, presentation, and storage. Successful graduates are also eligible to study further in the field of cookery.

At diploma level, cookery students are educated are taught additional cooking skills and knowledge. Additionally, students are taught higher-level kitchen management skills such as how to: manage kitchen resources, organise food and beverages for events, menu creation. These are useful for graduates who wish to be in management or run their own kitchen.
